The Johnstone Strait expedition departs from Campbell River or Quadra
Island. We transfer by Spirit of the West bus to the seaside community
of Telegraph Cove on the north east coast of Vancouver Island, where
we board our water taxi and journey out to Village Island. From here
will paddle through the Broughton Archipelago and into Johnstone Strait,
where we will be picked up on our last day.

- Day Prior
If you are unable to check in at our office on Quadra Island, please call us the day before to confirm the exact departure time, location, and any last minute details.
- Day 1
Leave Quadra Island and Campbell River early morning, and drive 2 1/2 hours to Telegraph Cove. A scenic boat ride will bring us to Village Island. After we get aquainted with our surroundings, will pack our boats, and go over the kayaking basics and essential safety procedures before heading off on our journey. Our first night will be spent on one of the surrounding islands.
- Day 2 & 3
Paddle amongst the enchanting islands of the Broughton Archipelago.
- Day 4
Travel to Johnstone Strait and the realm of the Orca. This is our chance to paddle in their habitat. If we are lucky we will have close encounters with these magnificent animals. On this day we may have time to hike up to the researchers look out.
- Day 5
On our last day we end up at the Spirit of the West base camp in Johnstone Strait. From here we return to Telegraph Cove by water taxi, and transfer to Campbell River and Quadra Island by bus.

The Johnstone Strait Expedition starts in either Campbell River on Vancouver Island, or our home base on Quadra Island. For detailed information please visit our Getting Here page.
